This located by the main gallery entrance. Our staff will be happy to help you with any questions.

Toilets are located by each entrance to the building, there are also toilets located in the temporary exhibition space.

Facilities for babies and children

Buggies are welcome and usable throughout the building – with lifts to access the lower galleries 1, 2 and 3 and west mezzanine.

Prams and buggies must not be left unattended either inside or outside the building.

Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Young children must be closely supervised by an adult at all times.

Baby changing areas

Baby changing facilities are located in the toilets near the Modern Life Café

The Modern Life Café has a childrens’ menu option and packed lunch boxes and highchairs are available.

We are breastfeeding friendly and can provide hot water to warm baby milk/food.

Facilities for disabled visitors

The Sainsbury Centre is accessible to disabled visitors including those with limited mobility and those accompanying them, with the exception of the Mezzanine Gallery.

The Sainsbury Centre is a Grade II* Listed building. Due to Fire Safety regulations, we regret we are unable to allow visitors access to the Mezzanine Gallery who are unable to independently navigate the steep spiral staircase in the event of an evacuation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are working on a solution.

Please visit our Disabled Visitors page for more details

There are coat racks with hangers close to the Modern Life Café, with additional coat racks in the cloakroom by gallery reception entrance. These are free to use and are unattended.

For valuables, we have secure lockers in the toilets by the gallery reception entrance. These take £1 coins, returnable after use.

Large Items

Please leave large items, such as rucksacks, skateboards and scooters in the cloakroom as these are not allowed in the galleries.

Please note: The platform lift at Gallery Reception to the temporary exhibition spaces is currently non-operational. Visitors with access needs will be assisted by the Visitor Services and Gallery Assistant teams to enter the exhibition spaces via an external ramp. We apologise for any inconvenience.

A service lift at the west end provides access to the Mezzanine Gallery, otherwise reached by a spiral staircase.

Please note: Visitors to the Mezzanine Gallery must be able to independently navigate the spiral staircase in the case of an emergency. Further information >
