Our work with Artists

Artists work with us regularly to devise interpretive resources, collaborate on research projects or contribute to our public programme.

The Sainsbury Centre supports the work of artists through professional development of various kinds including artist residencies, training days, artist talks and artists in conversation events, providing a platform for artists to develop and share current practice, projects, and areas of work or research.

  • We work with artists who:
  • Have an interest and enthusiasm for working with world art collections and exhibitions in a public environment
  • Are excellent communicators and listeners
  • Are able to establish rapport especially with groups of children and people of all ages
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the creative process and a high level of skill in a specialist area
  • Are able to make reference to broader contexts (for example to the work of other artists or participatory practices)
  • Are good enablers, with a collaborative approach to planning and delivery
  • Understand the contexts and requirements of formal education at all levels
  • Are able to create an environment where people feel they can express their ideas
