This Deccan School painting depicts Sultan Jamshid Quli, the second member of the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golconda who reigned from 1543-1550. The Sultan is shown wearing Mughal costume of the late seventeenth century and is painted in typical Mughal portrait style, standing behind a balcony with a falcon.

We know this was painted well after his death from the halo, a device used to illustrate kings or rulers in portraits in the mid-17th century.
