Conservation is all about looking after objects and preserving them for the future, so it’s at the heart of the Sainsbury Centre’s activities.
The Sainsbury Centre conservation team and its work
'Behind the scenes', we have a team of staff dedicated to preserving the collections and artworks under our care.
Work include preventive care, technical investigation, treatment, documentation and research. We also provide conservation resources for exhibition and loan programmes.
This vital work is aided by conservation interns, volunteers and freelance conservators.
These include a purpose built and well-equipped conservation studio, a second studio for examination, photography and art storage. There is also a storeroom with de-infestation facilities and controlled handling areas.
Our conservation mission
We aim to bring excellence and innovation to preserving art works and continually look for new and better ways to do this.
This preventative conservation ensures that people can see our objects today and continue to enjoy them for many years to come.
